As we were finishing up some other tracks, I impulsively asked my son Evan Espinola if he would take a shot at the lead vocal on this one. He had never sung it before, though we'd performed it together. Lyric sheet in hand, he nailed it on the first take. Sang it like he was playing sax on a ballad. The song is about listening, to someone you completely disagree with, whose whole approach to life offends you in every way. Now, is there something you can find that makes you the same? Can you possibly feel as one?
lyrics
I know we can’t agree
I know we can’t agree
I know we can’t agree
Can we?
I don’t understand why you have to act this way
You don’t understand why I say the things I say
I don’t understand why you do the things you do
You don’t understand , why can’t I be more like you
But I find myself in you
But I find myself in you
But I find myself in you
I do,
Ooh-- ooh, ooh—ooh
I know myself in you
I know myself in you
I know myself in you
I do
Fear that’s filling me is the fear that’s filling you
Love that lives in me, well, it lives inside you too
I may not be your friend, but I’ll listen to your words
You may not be my friend, but know that you’ll be heard
‘Cause I find myself in you
Can you find yourself in me,
Can we find ourselves in “we”,
Can we?
Ooh-- ooh, ooh—ooh
I know we can’t agree
I know we can’t agree
I know we can’t agree
Can we?
